Mechanical Design Engineer

Established in 1997, SCIREQ is a world leader in the conception, design and manufacturing of precision laboratory equipment for preclinical respiratory research.  We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary product development team. The individual has a desire to work in a small business environment with a focus on cutting-edge technology.  As a SCIREQ Mechanical Engineer you will be involved with many aspects of the product life cycle, including conception, design, verification, validation, launch and customer support. 


Primary responsibilities:

  • Applying mechanical engineering theory and principles to product development
  • Designing hardware, including 3D modeling of assemblies and components
  • Creating technical drawings for manufacturing
  • Developing manufacturing procedures and testing 
  • Investigating relevant technologies offered by manufacturing suppliers
  • Communicating with suppliers to optimize production methods and cost
  • Advising and assisting our production team in implementing automated hardware and system test strategies
  • Performing experimental product validation studies
  • Researching scientific publications, patents, and technologies used by competitor
  • Acting as a consultant for sales and technical support department
  • Select administrative duties

Qualifications                                                                                                                                                                         

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (experience in Biomedical Engineering an asset)
  • Applicant must be proficient in 3D CAD modeling and drawing preferably in Solidworks
  • Applicant must be proficient in general computing, including knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (mill & lathe work, CNC machining, sheet metal, RTV moulding, coatings & surface treatments, 3D printing, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude & creativity demonstrated through past work experience, supplementary education, hobbies, etc.
  • The ability to learn highly technical information quickly in a fast-paced work environment
  • The ability to work efficiently, both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail oriented and analytical
  • Excellent ability to write and speak in English 

Assets 

  • Relevant work experience in a similar position or field 
  • Familiarity or work experience with Agile project management
  • Knowledge of respiratory mechanics and/or the respiratory system
  • Familiarity with the scientific research process, including study design, publications, conferences, etc.
  • Exposure to rapid prototyping and 3D printing
  • Familiarity with electronics & components like sensors, switches, PCBs, motors, batteries, connectors, etc.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB or other computational software 
  • Material knowledge: metals, plastics, composites, etc
  • Ability to write and speak in French
